Report
On: Means of Transport ………………………….
To: Monsieur Bernard Garcin and partners …………………………..
By: the Greek team 16/1/09
INTRODUCTION
The aim of this report is to present the findings of a recent survey on means of transport in
The following aspects are going to be dealt with:
MEANS OF TRANSPORT USED
As regards the means of transport used by, it was established that a significant number of the respondents go to school or work on foot (38% / 20,6%) while 28%/15,3% are using a petrol oil engine car. This can be seen as a negative phenomenon. Less than the half of the respondents are using public transport (bus, train, metro).
On the other hand it is encouraging that people walk to work or school
This is probably due to the fact that most of them (39% / 30%) live less than 2km away, as the great majority of the responders are school children.
INFORMATION
As far as how much we know about low-polluting vehicles is concerned, it was found out that most teenagers were aware of hybrid cars (37%/18%) and electric cars (35%/26%). Very few had heard of hydrogen cars (10%/15%), L.P.G cars (4%/9%) and vegetable oil powered cars (4%/15%).
Consequently, most respondents would buy a hybrid car (42%/13%) while a great number (31%/22%) would still prefer a petrol engine car. Only 15%/6% would buy a hydrogen-powered car and 12% /9%would prefer an electric car.
Presumably, the fact that the respondents are not fully informed on the issue of the sustainable mobility is due to the fact that the state has not campaigned enough in favor of low polluting vehicles.
SOURCES OF INFORMATION
As for the sources from which the respondents (74%/47,6% female and 26%/52,4% male) have drawn their knowledge about sustainable mobility a striking percentage (28%/35%) mentioned television, (19%/18%) mentioned newspapers and 17%/17% the Internet and 17%/9% conversations.
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS (reasons why)
Interestingly, the majority of the responders stated that the reason why people choose low polluting vehicles is to protect the environment (29%/23%) and to reduce pollution (29%/16%). The issues of planet rescue and climate change were also mentioned, which shows that most the responders are quite aware of the problems of the environment.
CONCLUSION
On the whole, it could be concluded that the population studied in the survey tends to ignore most of the low polluting vehicles but realize their role for the protection of the environment.
